Another weekend of rain has just passed and the only laps put down on the various Maritimes tracks was Scotia on Friday night. There was a large crowd on hand to witness the event and good car counts were available in each division. The weekly race events at Scotia appear to be in good shape again this year.

Elsewhere, the schedules are in shambles and a lot of work needs to be done to get everything run now. Speedway 660 has not announced a new date for their "Best of the Best" Pro Stock event as some of the frontrunners are also committed to other series'.

River Glade Speedway opens its doors for the 2008 season this Sunday with racing commencing at 3pm. The feature event will be a 100 lap Sportsman event and promises to be exciting.

Centre for Speed has lost their opener three weeks in a row. Frustration must be settling in both among the drivers and management at this point. Severe juggling will now be needed to make things work.

All eyes this coming weekend will be on Riverside Speedway, as they try to kick off their 2008 season by hosting race two of the Pro Stock Tour, the Ron MacGillivary Chevrolet 100, on Saturday evening. Running on the undercard will be the first race of the Riverside Sportsman Series. This should be a good one with lots of action in both classes. Wayne Smith will be out to revenge his loss in the first race at Scotia two weeks ago while Shawn Turple will be trying to put a second win in his stable. On the other hand, Shawn Tucker is the defending champion and he ran well last time as well.

Rollie MacDonald, Donald Chisholm and George Koszkulics all call "Riverside" home, and any one of them can make a race interesting at any time. This should be a good one. The Sportsman series always attracts a large and talented field as well, and these guys put on quite a show. There are too many challengers to even count at this point

By now, most of the other tracks are either open or preparing to open with cards of heart stopping action as local drivers battle for pride, honour and bragging rights. Why not join them this weekend. You'll be glad you did !!!

Love him or hate him, no matter. Kyle Busch continues to set a torrid pace in all three divisions of NASCAR's national racing. The youthful competitor, whose arrogance and blatent disrespect for his fellow competitors has not earned him many "happy" points, continues to dominate race after race. This does not always translate into victories for Busch but he is always a factor. A quick look at the NASCAR standings shows him 16th in Truck, despite missing two races, second in the Nationwide, and leading in Sprint Cup. There seems to be no stopping him yet.

NASCAR's Sprint Cup has undergone quite a switch since last year. If you remember, Hendricks Motorsports couldn't do anything wrong as Gordon, Johnson, and company (yes, the aformentioned Kyle Busch), dominated proceedings with Johnson eventually taking home the big prize last November. A year later, Busch is gone, Dale Earnhardt Jr NASCAR's most popular driver) is on board, and performance is way down. All three have had some good runs, but there have been more bad days than good. The fourth team member, Casey Mears, (of whom a lot was expected), has for the most part been a non event. What a difference a year makes !!!

Last week saw the debut of the 18 year old phenom, Joey Lagano. He did not disappoint either, bringing home a sixth place finish in a very competitive Nationwide field. Big things are expected of him and if this is any indication, he will come through.

Well my time is done so gentlemen, and ladies, start your engines !!!
